Ilana Camras

American-Israeli cellist Ilana Camras enjoys a varied career as soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player. In 2018, Ilana was appointed as cellist in the Israel Sinfonietta in Be'er Sheva. She performs regularly with Sinfonietta members in chamber music concerts in Eshkol. 

Dedicated to Jewish art music and specifically Israeli composers, Ilana has performed Israeli works in Michigan, Chicago, and Israel. She has twice received project grants from the Luminarts Foundation in Chicago to support research and performance of these works. Ilana works frequently with Israeli composer Emanuel Vahl.

In 2017, Ilana  organized the inaugural Ann Arbor residency for Jewish Art Music featuring guest scholar Neal Brostoff. The following year, she organized the second residency, featuring pianist Jascha Nemtsov, with co-organizers Aviva Klein and Jeffrey Siegfried.

Beginning a career in pedagogy, Ilana completed Suzuki Pedagogy training for Books 1 through 3 with Dr. Tanya Carey in Chicago. She hopes to work with young cellists at age three and four.

Ilana studied at festivals in Aspen, Orford, Chautauqua, and the National Repertory Orchestra. In 2020, she will attend the Pablo Casals Festival in Prades.

Ilana earned her B.M. in Cello and B.S. in Physics from the University of Michigan in 2018. Her teachers include Richard Aaron and Tanya Carey. In fall, she will pursue a Masters of Music degree at the Jersualem Academy of Music and Dance, studying with Zvi Plesser, while maintaining her position in the Israel Sinfonietta.
